Women are at the heart of what we do
About us
L’Ombre-Elle is an organization in the Laurentians that has offered assistance and accommodation for women and children who are victims of domestic violence since 1982.
Our mission
L’Ombre-Elle offers temporary accommodation that’s confidential and free of charge. It allows you to distance yourself from violence, take a step back and see the overall picture. We offer you and your children a safe living environment where you can benefit from the 24/7 support of a team of counsellors.
- L’Ombre-Elle is a non-profit organization with a feminist approach.
- Our mandate involves ensuring the physical and psychological safety of women and children who are victims of domestic violence by offering a range of free assistance, accommodation and support services. Women and children are at the heart of everything that we do.
- Our role also involves raising awareness among women, children, professionals and community members of the impacts of domestic violence and coercive control.
Our story
When L’Ombre-Elle was founded in 1982, it was based in a small room in the presbytery in Fatima. The organization has come a long way since then. Over the years and thanks to its integration into the Regroupement des maisons pour femmes victimes de violence conjugale, L’Ombre-Elle has increased its service capacity and is now a central part of the community.
A new chapter will begin in 2024 when L’Ombre-Elle moves into a brand-new building. In September 2021, L’Ombre-Elle became a member of the Alliance MH2. Through unrelenting work and mobilization, we will soon be able to open the Lucille Milord House and ensure a continuity of services that includes safe, transitional accommodation units.
Over the decades, many things have changed at
L’Ombre-Elle, but one element is still central to everything we do: the organization’s commitment to improving the wellbeing of women and children who are victims of domestic violence.
Values
All of our interventions and actions are centred around our
values which take a feminist approach.

Our team
The L’Ombre-Elle team is made up of 20 or so multiskilled counsellors who specialize in domestic violence. Each counsellor completes a 70-hour training course that fully equips them to support women and children with several aspects of their lives (legal, judicial, legislative, concepts and theories regarding helping relationships) and also to ensure a welcoming and caring approach.
Our Board of Directors
L’Ombre-Elle is a non-profit organization operated by women who uphold the Charter of feminist principles. We adopted a democratic structure which includes an annual general meeting and a board of directors. Each member of the board of directors works on a volunteer basis for a cause: women and children who are victims of domestic violence.
Thank you for your commitment.
